PHENOMENON

The term “Phenomenology” in philosophy refers to the study of how phenomena appear to the intentional consciousness of the subject, disregarding the external physical reality. This involves putting aside the value of the external reality, as it were, in brackets.
The artwork “Phenomenon” is an evolving installation featuring a glass plate with an astronomical laser pointing at it. The laser, mounted a few meters away on a black metal support, gradually destroys the glass plate through its light beam. The installation is a continuous interplay of destruction and construction, as the glass plate progressively shatters until complete destruction, allowing the work to evolve throughout the exhibition.
“Phenomenon” aims to depict the common mental tendency to unconsciously separate and oppose the concepts of construction and destruction. This stems from a preconception that views destruction as detestable since the ultimate goal of human work in the world is seen as construction within its exclusive scope. However, upon closer examination of the physical world’s formation and transformation processes, it becomes evident that construction and destruction are inseparably intertwined in a continuous flow.
